Sister M. Ann Patrick ministered in elementary education for 57 years, 50 of those as a classroom teacher. She was anticipating a return to St. Gregory the Great School for a tenth year of service when a number of health issues converged, leading to surgery and hospitalization. Sister Ann Patrick died August 3 at Hillcrest Hospital after two weeks in the Intensive Care Unit. She was 80.

Joan Donnelly was born April 15, 1929, the only child of Francis and Theresa Donnelly. The Ursuline Academy of the Sacred Heart graduate entered the Ursuline congregation from Saint Philomena Parish September 8, 1948, and professed final vows in August 1954. This past April she celebrated her 60th jubilee.

Sister Ann Patrick, like many of her contemporaries, earned her undergraduate degree attending Saturday classes at St. John College, while also engaging in full-time teaching during the week.

Her education career included tenures at St. Jerome, Christ the King, St. Therese, St. Mary (Collinwood), St. Philomena, St. Robert Bellarmine, St. William, Our Lady of Peace and St. Ann schools. Sister Ann Patrick’s last teaching assignment was at St. Clare School, where she served 14 years. Since 2000 she had served in various capacities at St. Gregory the Great School, including librarian, tutor, substitute and office assistant.

Sister Ann Patrick will be remembered for her goodness and generosity, for her zest for life and for her ever youthful spirit. She was a faith-filled woman, a committed religious, a dedicated teacher and colleague, and a loyal friend and cousin.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Ministry Fund of the Ursuline Sisters.
