As we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland continue on the road to engaging and revering all of Creation. This is one of many ways the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland live our Chapter Commitment.

Did You Know?

·71% of our local convents take action to conserve water.

Impact: Enhances availability of fresh water sources for future generations, reduces energy from water pumping, delivery and treatment, and restores habitats for plants and animals.

·In October, 2009, the laundering of sheets and towels from the St. Angela Center was out-sourced to a green laundry facility in the inner city that uses organic products.

Impact: Reduces our carbon footprint by replacing an old, inefficient operation. Evergreen Cooperative Laundry around Cleveland’s University Circle area models societal change among the poor and oppressed

·71% of our local houses educate and/or influence others about environmental issues.

Impact: Education improves awareness, changes behaviors and promotes the common good. It contributes to changing systems.

·An energy audit has been conducted for the Ursuline Educational Center. The current 21st Century Club appeal is underway to fund energy and cost-saving projects related to this audit.

Impact: The study evaluates electrical and heating inefficiencies. It helps identify opportunities to reduce electrical and natural gas consumption.

On this Earth Day, may the lives of Saint Angela Merici and Saint Francis of Assisi inspire and guide us into a future full of hope.
