Saint Angela Garden

The Saint Angela Garden was created in 2000 to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of our Congregation. It symbolizes the abundant blessings and ministry growth we’ve experienced since 1850, when four Sisters arrived from France to establish the Ursuline Nuns of Cleveland (the first religious order of women in the Diocese), as we were formerly known. Within days of their arrival, they established the first Catholic school in the Diocese with an enrollment of 300 girls.
Changing societal needs over the past century and a half have increasingly called us to expand our ministries beyond classroom education. In her counsels, our foundress, Saint Angela, directs us to address the challenges of our times as opportunities to help foster the development of good communities. We do this by engaging in ministries—as Saint Angela did—that promote healthy, spiritual families by focusing on the gifts and needs of the individuals who are a part of these families. Today, we do this via many ministries that empower others to realize their full potential.
