Sister Dorothy Kazel Alleluia Award

Call for nominations
Deadline: April 18, 2010

Be assured that I am more alive than when I was on earth and I see more clearly and hold dear all the good works that I see you constantly performing.

Saint Angela Merici, Introduction to Counsels

The Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland will celebrate two significant anniversaries in 2010, the 30th anniversary of the martyrdom of Sister Dorothy Kazel in El Salvador, and the 475th anniversary of the Ursuline community, founded by Saint Angela Merici, which called Sister Dorothy to serve. We will celebrate the memory of both these women, who brought a creative, healing presence to the people, places and times they served.

Saint Angela could not but “hold dear the good works” she saw Sister Dorothy “constantly performing” as her joyful daughter spread her Alleluia spirit in her Ursuline ministry. With the desire to keep Sister Dorothy’s spirit alive, the Dorothy Kazel Alleluia Award was established in 1983. Since then, a venerable group of honorees have been nominated and acknowledged for serving others in the joy-filled, contemplative and justice-oriented spirit of Sister Dorothy.

Toward this end, we request nominees for the 2010 Sister Dorothy Kazel Alleluia Award. Nominees will be evaluated on the following criteria:

Justice-based service;
Compassion;
Contemplative
approach to life and service; and
Alleluia spirit
.

Posthumous nominees are not eligible. The Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland will present the award Saturday, December 4, in the Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity, located in the Ursuline Educational Center/Motherhouse.

Nominations will be accepted in narrative form, limited to 500 words, illustrating how the nominee meets the stated criteria. Additional documentation may accompany the narrative. Nominations must include:

Nominator’s name, address, phone number and email; and
Nominee’s name, address, phone number and email.

All nominations must be received by April 18. Nominations may be emailed or mailed to:
