Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland Asian American Statement

Posted March 20, 2021 in Articles

The Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland renounce racism and call on all people to create a more just and inclusive way of living in peace with one another.  Asian-American racism has no place in our country.  We offer prayers to the victims of the Atlanta shootings and their families.

The Asian-American racism that we have witnessed is not new, but a reemergence of a long-standing racism and xenophobia toward Asian-Americans, many or whom have lived in the United States for centuries.  The tragic events in Atlanta earlier this week are part of an alarming nationwide trend of hate crimes all too frequent in the United States.

It is incumbent on all of us to resist language and acts that denigrate Asian- Americans and all people of color.   We are called upon to resist subtle and overt acts of bigotry andto build up the common good through acts of love for all of our neighbors as Jesus Christ modeled.
