Teacher, Member of Parish Staffs, Spiritual Care
The ministry of Sister Shirley Ann (or of Sister John Mark as she was formerly known) spanned an impressive number of years and locations. From 1978 to 1995 she taught elementary school students in 10 different schools in the Cleveland area. She served as an instructor and supervisor of ministry experience at St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana for 11 years. For 14 years she was a member of parish staffs throughout Northeast Ohio. In her last years of ministry, she was Coordinator of Spiritual Care Services at Altercare St. Joseph Home, Warrensville Hts.
Sister Shirley Ann retired to Light of Hearts Villa in 2017. Having transferred to Regina Health Center in 2022, Sister died peacefully there on October 22, 2024.
Sister Shirley Ann was born on January 10, 1936, to Louis and Winifred (Kilkenny) Warner. She attended Holy Family School and Villa Angela Academy. After entering the Ursuline Community in 1953, she received her Bachelor’s degree at St. John College in Cleveland and her Master’s degree at St. Meinrad School of Theology in Indiana. She made her final vows as an Ursuline Sister in 1959.
The varied nature of her ministries attests to Sister Shirley Ann’s multiple gifts. She loved teaching. She knew how to empower the faculties and staffs with whom she worked. She brought her lightness of spirit and her sense of humor to all of her places of ministry. It is impossible to estimate the number of persons Sister Shirley Ann influenced in her long life of service to God’s people.
