Sister Mary Sterle was born in Cleveland in 1932. Her parents, Andrew and Frances, were of Slovenian heritage and instilled in Sister Mary a love of that lineage. Mary had a brother, Stanley, who pre-deceased her.
Sister died after a brief illness on Thanksgiving morning, November 27th, 2025. Many nieces and nephews survive her.
After her education at St. John’s College, Sister Mary engaged in classroom teaching at nine different schools for 47 years. Following those years in ministry, she served as moderator of sodality, pre-school teacher, tutor, and service in the Ursuline Gift Shop. Sister’s final ministry was in the Apostolate of Prayer for the Church and the world.
As Sister’s health began to fail, she experienced a severe loss of eyesight. Patiently she tried to accommodate her life to this new reality. She was grateful for the services of other sisters who read the Scriptures and prayers for her. Sister Mary also enjoyed books on tape, thus being able to remain connected to the characters and places in God’s wide world.
Sister Mary Sterle’s funeral liturgy is Wednesday, December 3rd, 11:00am, with Visitation at 10:00am. All services at Regina Health Center, 5232 Broadview Rd., Richfield. Interment to follow at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon. Arrangements by DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott.
