Consider the meaning of Communion.

Once upon a time, a young man and a young girl fell in love.

This love was so powerful that they were always in communication with each other. Everyone knew how they loved each other so very much. This was a union made in heaven! They were Americans, of the upper class, so they were highly educated, well off, sophisticated, intelligent and self motivated. It was a perfect “fit” and all agreed that their marriage was going to be wonderful.

They discussed in a very reasonable way the way their lives would be after they were married. The young man said, “Of course, we will live in my house. It is large and spacious with lots of windows to let in the sunlight.” The young woman said,
“Really, my house is just as large, but softer and has more earth colors on the walls. It is just more comfortable. We should really live in my house.” The young man said, “But my house has beautiful gardens all around it.” The young girl said, “But the fields around my house are vast and the animals that graze in the fields are very tame. ”The young man continued, “I am sure you understand that It would be proper and more fitting to live in my house. ”The young woman continued, “You realize that women are just as capable as men, so let’s just live in my house.”

On and on their reasonable discussion went. They ended up separating. They could not give up what they thought they were bringing to this marriage union. There was no marriage,
no come–union.

Perhaps Communion, means more than we thought.

Ponder the marriage union…the union of Christ and the Church. Reflect on the deeper union of the mystery of our humanness and the power of Spirit within all that is…breathe in the Oneness of all creation.

So, Father of all that moves in light, focus your light in us, make it useful like the rays from a beam…bring about your reign of come-union with our willing hands, willing to surrender.

Just pondering…
