Back to weekly reflections
Saint Paul in his letter to the Thessalonians encourages us to give thanks in all circumstances and continues in his message to say that this is God’s will for us. It is certainly a challenge.
In the 1970s I experienced an awakening to this reality and began practicing it. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Brother David Steindl-Rast, OSB who in his presentation emphasized being grateful in all circumstances. He went on to say that if we reflect on the many circumstances in our lives we will find that if we are not grateful for something we are probably complaining about it. I have found that to be true in my life.
It has been a wonderful practice when I remember to engage in gratitude which on some days is better than others. Always worth it!
And in the years since I met Bro. David I have found Counselors recommending Gratitude to those anxious and afraid as it aids in reducing the fear or anxiety.
Scientists who today can measure the frequency of every thought we have can tell us which ones deplete us and which ones enhance our well-being. I am sure you can guess where Gratitude is. It is a very high, life giving frequency.
Bro. David is on YouTube with many short and long presentations. If this speaks to your heart, you may want to check him out. Always for me he is grace, truth and love. I am Grateful!
