Sister Mary Jane has spent her ministry career in education, teaching intermediate grades in various schools in the diocese and tutoring in the Ursuline Institute of Learning. For the past few years, she has been a tutor in the Basic Literacy Program of Aspire Greater Cleveland through the County Library System. Sister Mary Jane has given the gift of reading skills to her adult students who, for various reasons, have not had the opportunity to learn to read and write. She, in turn, derives insight from her students’ sharing. She notes that it is “humbling to listen to their stories of growing up in the rural south during the years of segregation.”
